This is because on the Macbook keyboard there is no button that reads “print screen” or “prt sc” which is usually found on a Windows keyboard. But this does not need to worry because the Macbook provides its own way of taking screenshots. In other words, Macbook or computer with Mac OS operating system still provides features to take screenshots or screenshots of this image.

How to Take Full Screen Screenshot or Whole Screen

  1. Go to the screen where you want to take a screenshot or screenshot.
  2. Press the [command] + [shift] + [3] button on the keyboard.
  3. You will hear a camera sound indicating the screenshot or screenshot has been successfully taken.
  4. The screenshot file will automatically be saved on the desktop in the “PNG” file format.


How to Take Screenshots on the Active Window

  1. Open the window or window that you want to screenshot.
  2. Press the [command] + [shift] + [4] button on the keyboard.
  3. A small camera image will appear that follows the movement of the Kurson mouse (touchpad).
  4. Move the small camera image to the window or window you want to screenshot then click the window or window.
  5. You will hear a camera sound indicating the screenshot or screenshot has been successfully taken.
  6. The screenshot file will automatically be saved on the desktop in the “PNG” file format.

How to Take Screenshot of certain selected screen parts

  1. Go to the screen to take a screenshot.
  2. Press the [command] + [shift] + [4] then press the [space] key on the keyboard.
  3. Select the part of the screen to be screenshot.
  4. After selecting the desired part of the screen, a camera sound will be heard indicating the screenshot has been successfully taken.
  5. The screenshot file will automatically be saved on the desktop in the “PNG” file format.


Save the screenshot while on the Clipboard

In certain conditions, we do not want the screenshot to be saved on the desktop but want to use it directly in certain applications such as in email, powerpoint, excel or other applications. Then we can press the [control] button in front of the screenshot shortcut mentioned above then go to the desired application, then press [command] + [v] to paste or to paste it into the application. The following are the shortcuts (just add the [control] button in front of all the shortcuts).

  1. Take a Full Screen or Entire Screen Screenshot and save it temporarily in the clipboard: [control] + [command] + [shift] + [3].
  2. Take a screenshot of the Active Window and save it temporarily on the clipboard: [control] + [command] + [shift] + [4].
  3. Take a screenshot of the selected screen and temporarily save it to the clipboard: [control] + [command] + [shift] + [4] then just press the [space] key.
