6 High Alkaline Foods to Reduce Gastric Acid Levels

High Alkaline Foods

Fatty and spicy foods can cause excessive stomach acid production.

When stomach acid increases due to consuming foods that produce acid, you have to keep up with alkaline foods.

Eating alkaline foods can also help fight excess stomach acid caused by stress.

Here is a list of foods that can reduce excess stomach acid:

1. Vegetables

Some vegetables can be a source of alkaline and can reduce excess stomach acid.

Green vegetables such as parsley, raw spinach, broccoli, and celery contain high amounts of alkali, as well as garlic and artichokes.

In addition, carrots, green beans, lettuce, zucchini, pumpkin, asparagus, fresh corn, mushrooms, onions, peas, potatoes and cauliflower also effectively reduce stomach acid levels.

Avoid pickles, sweet potatoes, cooked spinach and red beans that can trigger the stomach to produce acid.

Also, stay away from blueberries, cranberries, bananas, plums, canned fruit and acid-filled processed fruit juices.

3. Grains and Cereals

While there are no grains and cereals that contain high alkali, lentils, corn, rice, millet and buckwheat are slightly alkaline which can help balance the acid produced by the body.

4. Dairy products

By eating soy cheese, goat cheese, soy milk, buttermilk, almond milk and whey, you have consumed a small amount of base.

Parmesan and processed cheese make the body produce acid so it must be avoided.

5. Legumes

Hazelnut, almonds, chestnuts and Brazil nuts can reduce excess acid in the stomach.

Conversely, peanuts, walnuts, cashews, candlenuts and pistachios can cause increased stomach acid.

6. Drinks

Drinking alkaline drinks will help reduce stomach acid. Herbal tea, green tea and ginger drinks are known to be high in alkalis.

Avoid consuming black tea, coffee, beer, liquor, wine, soda and chocolate because it increases acid levels.
